Spotify has rolled out a new feature called Exclusive Mode for its Windows desktop app. The option is available to Premium subscribers and is designed to improve audio quality by giving Spotify full control of playback.
With Exclusive Mode turned on, Spotify bypasses Windows’ usual audio processing. This means music is played exactly as it was encoded, without resampling or mixing in system sounds.
For those using high‑quality headphones, DACs, or speakers, the difference can be noticeable. The trade‑off is that other apps won’t be able to play audio while the mode is active, and Spotify features like crossfade and automix are disabled.
The feature is currently limited to Windows Premium users. Spotify says Mac support will come in a future update. To enable it, go to Playback settings, choose your audio device under “Output,” and switch on Exclusive Mode.

Audiophiles have been asking for bit‑perfect playback for years, especially since rivals like Tidal and Amazon Music already offer similar options.
This update follows Spotify’s recent launch of lossless audio in September 2025, which gave listeners a boost over its standard high‑quality setting.
