GoreBox temporarily banned after Tacloban school shooting

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has temporarily banned the game GoreBox after a school shooting in Tacloban City that killed three students and injured 20 others. Police confirmed that one of the Grade 9 suspects was a regular player of the violent sandbox game.

CICC Undersecretary Aboy Paraiso said the ban is a precautionary measure while authorities investigate if the game influenced the suspects’ actions. The agency, together with the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), has stepped up monitoring of GoreBox and similar platforms through its Threat Monitoring Center.

Paraiso said that the move is not just about blocking the app but also about reinforcing vigilance in the digital space. He emphasized the need to protect children from harmful online content and highlighted the importance of stronger monitoring systems.

The public is encouraged to report cyberbullying and online threats via Hotline 1326 or email report@cicc.gov.ph. CICC is also committed to working with other government agencies and stakeholders as the investigation continues.
