Google’s Gemini now offers Personal Intelligence, linking apps for AI answers

Google has rolled out Personal Intelligence on Gemini, a new feature that connects the AI assistant to Gmail, Photos, YouTube, and Search. The update makes Gemini more useful by pulling information directly from your apps to give personalized answers.

The feature is in beta and available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the US. Google says it will expand to more countries and subscription tiers soon.

With Personal Intelligence, Gemini can combine reasoning with data retrieval across text, images, and video. For example, it can find your tire size from a Gmail receipt or pull your license plate number from a photo. It can also suggest travel plans based on family interests and past trips.

Privacy is a key part of the rollout. Connecting apps is optional, and you can turn it off anytime. Gemini also shows the source of its answers, so you can check where the information came from.

Google adds that the AI does not train directly on Gmail or Photos content, but instead uses filtered prompts and responses. Guardrails are in place to avoid assumptions about sensitive topics like health.

Personal Intelligence works on web, Android, and iOS, but it is not yet available for Workspace business, enterprise, or education accounts. You can enable it in the Gemini app under Personal Intelligence and Connected Apps.
