Apple explores screenless fitness bands, says report

Apple is looking at screenless fitness bands, according to Mark Gurman. The company wants to refresh its wearables as more users try smart rings and simple health trackers.

The Apple Watch lineup has barely changed since 2018. Current models like the Series 11 and Ultra 3 only got small updates. Gurman says the upcoming Series 12 and Ultra 4 will finally bring faster performance, new colors, and fresh health features. Apple may also bring back the ceramic case.

Apple is testing different ideas for its next devices. These include display‑free bands, watches with round faces, and new premium models beyond the Ultra and Hermès editions. At the same time, cheaper options may join the SE to reach more buyers.

The long‑term plan is to make the Apple Watch more AI‑driven. A smarter Siri and a redesigned Health app are in the works under Eddy Cue. Apple wants wearables that focus on health insights instead of just being another screen.

The new Apple Watch models are expected at Apple’s September event, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup.
